Survey Rodman - Helper
This position is: Full Time
Position Location: Louisiana/Texas
Survey Rodman perfoms tasks assigned by the Party Chief and Instrumentman, including but not limited to brush clearing, tree cutting, and pipeline probing, loading of vehicle, boat and equipment, works in rugged terrain, swamp, marsh, etc. must be able to swim. Weekend, holiday and out of town work probable.

Purpose:  The Rodman works as a survey helper and assists the Party Chief and Instrument man as needed.


Work Schedule: Nominal 10 hours per day; Monday through Saturday; Overtime may be required on short notice to attempt to meet project deadlines.



  • Assist the Party Chief and Instrument man as directed

  • Performs field tasks, including but not limited to; brush clearing, tree cutting and pipeline probing

  • Responsible for loading and unloading of vehicle, boat and/or off road vehicle

  • Regular cleaning of vehicle, boats, buggies, and equipment

  • Assures that all needed supplies are on hand for job, i.e. flagging, nails, hammers, lumber, sweeper etc.

  • Cleans all equipment and charges electronics for next day

  • Makes sure all ice chests and water coolers are full and clean

  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures



    Key Tasks:


  • Identify and follow all safe work procedures

  • Fill ice chests and water coolers

  • Stock truck with supplies...flagging, lumber, iron rods, survey caps, cane poles, PVC, etc.

  • Load equipment into truck

  • Hook up boat/air boat/ORUV/marsh buggy to truck

  • Inspect and hook up safety chains

  • Inspect vehicle and trailer lights

  • Check vehicle oil and washer fluid levels

  • Insure that all needed safety equipment is available (hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, hand protection, steel toe shoes, Nomex, First Aid Kit)

  • Attend and participate in daily tail gate safety meetings


At Job Site

  • Identify and follow all safe work procedures

  • Assist in loading/unloading equipment, materials, and supplies to or from truck and loading/unloading boat/air boat/ORUV/marsh buggy to truck

  • Assist with manual labor duties, including, but not limited to probing, cutting vegetation along survey lines, setting up equipment, carrying materials and supplies



  • Identify and follow all safe work procedures

  • Empty and clean ice chests and water coolers

  • Return equipment to equipment room

  • Unhook and assist in cleaning and maintenance of boat/air boat/ORUV/marsh buggy

  • Assist with equipment cleaning and maintenance



Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 100 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



    Work Conditions:

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, rugged terrain such as marsh, swamp, wooded areas, on boats, airboats, marsh/swamp buggies

  • Is frequently exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat

  • Work is often on waterways; employee should be able to swim

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

  • Participation in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.

  • Ability to concentrate and simultaneously adapt to changing priorities on a regular basis.



Rodman works in the field environment.
